A flight passing several time zones will not only unsettle the sleep rhythm but it often also affects digestion. Some people react to unaccustomed food at their travel destination with constipation. The long hours during a flight or a car journey can also cause constipation due to the lack of movement.
A feverish illness could yet be another reason. This, combined with having to stay in bed for several days, may also upset the regular bowel movement. Although these are temporary complaints, they do strongly impair the well-being of the affected persons. If there is no bowel movement, they will suffer from flatulence, bloating and even stomach cramps. This will spoil any recreation on the trip abroad. Many seek advice from a chemist first. Before a remedy can be recommended, PTA or the chemist need to ask a number of questions. The aim is a regular bowel movement at least every three days.
